hi,

I have installed oracle9i in windows xp OS.After instalation i connect the db but it shows a error
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name

My script:

sqlplus system/manager@mike;

error;
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name

but i connected the db throgh this query

sqlplus system/manager.

After that i proved mike is global db name through below steps

sqlplus sys as sysdba/password;

sql>select name from v$database;

mike

The tnsnames of mike is not present in tnsnames.ora file.
In tnsnames.ora file has only two tnsnames

EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS =
(PROTOCOL = IPC)
(KEY = EXTPROC0)
)
)
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SID = PLSExtProc)
(PRESENTATION = RO)
)
)

INST1_HTTP =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS =
(PROTOCOL = TCP)
(HOST = michael)
(PORT = 1521)
)
)
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = SHARED)
(SERVICE_NAME = MODOSE)
(PRESENTATION = http)
)
)
mike tnsname is missing.

How can recover it?

Thanks,
Michael

Add the entry.
There are examples in the documentation and in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/sample directory.
