We are converting from oracle 7 to oracle 8. Does it still use sql*net and is there any other place to get it other than oracle? Any free downloads available?

With the new Oracle 8 install you get the new Net8. Net8 is the replacement for SQL*Net. So, Net8 comes on the same CD as the Server. (You can see this by doing the "Custom Install") You can use SQL*Net 2.3x on the client to connect to a database running Net8. But doing this you will loose the new features of Net8.
