hi,

i am maintaining a database which contains some date in it. i have taken the back up of it and dmp file available in some folder in linux machine.if i want to use the same database name also what should i do?i.e entire database should be blank and dnp file content should be restored into the database
so i have to give this command directly.
eg: imp pvt/pvt file=pvt.dmp fromuser=pvt touser=pvt

An export (and a dmp file) is NOT a backup.
You have to create a new database and then import your data.

already iam having one database.now i want to proceed with the same database that means if i use imp command using this database name with that dmp file.everything will be recovered no.or this is not the suggested way?

What do you want to "recover"?
A schema? then proceed as you said but you will not recover you will just restore data as it was in dmp file.
