What do you guys think of the new Flash based Metalink?

"A number of Oracle users are infuriated by reported access and performance issues with the vendor's new My Oracle Support portal, which superseded the long-standing Metalink site on Nov. 6."

I concur with Mahesh's sentiments.

As far as I'm concerned, the "new" flash based metalink is a serious regression in functionality. I think they tried to cram as many bells & whistles, widgets and gadgets into one portal as they possibly could.

Oracle really should adhere to the Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS) principle !!!

Definitely. It took about 8 minutes to completely load the flash to 100%, and then it just gave me a "connection error".

What it at LEAST shout have done is point to documentation if/what firewall/proxy settings might be needed. I can only connect trough a http proxy from work, so I fear might not ever work from here if they use some special connectivity.

Same here. Kind of like we say here alot; Stay away from the gui-based tools. It's eye-candy, but has less functionality. I kepy getting errors trying to search for a specific note that Oracle told me to refer to.

Ah! So that is it. Then maybe I should (try to) log a SR that they must at least replace the "Connection Error" error with a "You are clueless. Go away." error.

Just to make it more clear to the customers what the problem is. Laughing

Edit:

Oh, And I just tried to go to the FAQ page that he says explains about the HTML option if you don't have FLASH, and what do I get? The same rotating stuck-at-90% flash page.

I really wonder how people will cope with the "Oh The server room is burning, and we need to resolve some problems fast, but we have to try to install FLASH on 64bit AIX first to get to the Oracle support site"

(Five minutes later, and still stuck on 90%. This is really quite hilarious, but only because I don't have any open problems at the moment. Very Happy )

I haven't been on metalink since the 11/6 reture date, so I tried today. I cannot get on. Hung at 90% just like it is mentioned in the blog. I use Firefox. Who designed this? Microsoft?

MOS = Most Offensive Shit (that's what I got out of it - makes sense).

Same here with Firefox.
Had some luck with Safari. Still, I cannot stand the interface.
Extremely slow, search options are nightmare for a bum like me.

Seems it is somewhat stable now. Atleast for me with safari.
No luck with firefox and it may be flash plugins and a plethora of other stuff.
