We currently have a 9i database installed on a Windows 2000 Server.

We are using in-house software (Ada/OCI) on a server running on an Alpha 1200 running OpenVMS 7.1-2
It has an oracle7 client. The conenction was from the oracle7 client to an 8.0.5 database. We have moved to 9i on win2000 server.

We can connect to the 9i DB with the oracle7 client.

Has anyone else tried connecting to a 9i DB from Oracle7 and if so, can it be trusted to work?

What types of probelms have been encountered?

thanks

My understanding is that parts of the Oracle 7 OCI have been deprecated, and not built into Oracle 9, so no, you cannot use an oracle 7 client to connect to an oracle 9 database. You might get lucky and just be able to do a recompile/link against oracle 9 libraries. Otherwise, it is time to start re-reading the manuals on OCI to find the new method of doing things.

Sorry this isnt the answer you hoped for.
