Hello,

One of our software developers encountered a problem at a customers site.

He has Oracle 9i installed on his laptop (9.2.0.1.0) and tries to connect to the customers database server. The server is the Oracle 7 Workgroup Server (7.3.4.0.0).

Our developer tries to make a connection using the Net Configuration Assistant of his Oracle 9, but the connection test fails with error ORA-12560 TNS Protocol Adapter Error.

I advised him to copy the connection info from tnsnames.ora on a working PC (running Oracle 7), but apparently this has no effect.

Does anyone know if there is a compatibility issue here, or is there another reason for the failure?

FYI: the server is pingable from the laptop.

Kind regards,

Gert Willemsens

Hola,

An Oracle 9.2 client cannot talk to an Oracle 7.3.4 database.

Install an Oracle 9.0, or Oracle 8.1 client.

Tak

I'm very new at this things but try to check if the service OracleServiceORCL is connected (start > control panel > administrative tools > services).
