Hi,

Is it possible to set up 2 node 9i rac on linux , such that one node is allways active and the other one is passive. so that all connections are allways directed only to the active node?

I think it is possible with data guard , but I do not know for sure..if it is possible then please point the link to the installation set up for the same.

appreciate your help...

In dataguard, this is perfectly possible with failover & switchover concepts, but in RAC, I doubt, why you need such a thing.

that is becoz, RAC protects only against instance failures, but to protect against corruption of database files etc, data guard can be useful..so combination of both could lead to more risks avoided.

Yes, that true.

You can use both RAC & Dataguard in combination.

Scenario should be like this:
Keep your standby database on a node defferenet from the nodes running on your producion RAC setup & using a different storage, a storage not being used in production setup.

For further details & its implementation, I myself, need to study further. Actually, haven't done such a setup so far.

Thank you very much for sharing your views..I too need to study as I am just aware of the possibility but not the implementation details...
