Hi,

I understand that the default maximum password length for use with Oracle 8i is 30 characters..

Is it possible to change this default to 128 characters ?

Thanks.. for any help.

There is no default password length, there only is a maximum length which is 30 characters.
As any maximum, this is a limit.
Why 30 characters that is about 1.4*(10**72) possible passwords is not sufficient?

My question is: Is it possible to set the MAXIMUM (not minimum) password length to another value ??? ....not necessarily 128...maybe 50...100 etc.

Why 128 characters ?? My organisation is in the process of formulating a general password policy...the current stipulation is for a max 128 password...not only for Oracle...

Does this help?? Thanks...

Can you name three employees in your company who are capable of memorizing passwords of 128 characters in length?

Just imagine you making a typo at character 113 Smile

If your password is 128 characters long, you will have to store it in notepad and copy and paste it into the password field, which will defeat the purpose.

Or the classic of writing it on a post-it and sticking it to the corner of the monitor (might need a couple of post-its though.
